Therapist Statement

Picture

As a therapist, I feel honored every day to be entrusted into the lives of my clients and am humbled in my position to facilitate a process for people to heal, grow, and connect with themselves and the people in their lives. My intention is to help people learn to comfortably inhabit their inner worlds. I guide people through a process of exploring their minds to unravel the painful untruths they have learned about themselves and to reconnect with their inner healing resources.

My bigger hope is that as each individual begins to experience more inner peace, their healing can travel through the channels of people, families, friends and community to create a more peaceful and healthy world.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor (BACS) and hold a license in Louisiana. I received my Masters in Social Work from the Tulane University in 2007 and have completed Level 3 of Internal Family Systems therapy, an evidenced-based therapy for safely exploring and addressing anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms.

The majority of my nearly 20 years of clinical experience has been with individuals and families dealing with a range of issues including childhood trauma, addiction, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties, among others.  I believe in a mind/body approach to treatment.  I also believe that the strength of the therapy relationship can be healing.

My training began in 2007 with Children's Bureau of New Orleans as a child and family therapist. I worked with Project LAST (Loss And Survival Team) to address the consequences of racism, poverty, community violence and the trauma in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I gained a deep understanding of how cultural dynamics, natural disasters and intergenerational trauma affects the hearts, minds and bodies of people, families and communities. During that time, I became trained in EMDR therapy and integrated that practice into the trauma work with individuals and families.

In 2010, I began working as a school social worker and for the next 6 years I worked with students, families, teachers, and administration to advocate for the mental well-being of the children within the school institution.

Currently, I bring my years of experience working with children, teens, adults and families to a private practice, where clients can determine their goals and meet challenges at their own pace. While I aim to help people to reach their individual goals, I understand the need for some families to set goals together and be a bridge of communication as their therapist.
